"This will be the second installment of Toneburst. This is an ongoing concert series dedicated to experimental music from an ensemble cast of local and sometimes not so local musicians. We will be performing either in a solo context, or in ad hoc groups formed for this one night only. Expect short focused sets, with an emphasis on delivering highly original sound art that defies what is normally thought of as being part of the officially sanctioned 'live music capital' scene. We will at times try to excite you, lull you into trance states, make you laugh, think, forget, space out, space in, and in general have a wonderful time. We are presenting this as a free showcase, but donations are cheerfully accepted." - Rick Reed

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Alex Keller is an audio artist, instrument inventor, sound engineer, curator and teacher based in Austin, Texas. He releases CDs, makes sound installations, helps other artists with audio projects, and performs on his own and in small groups. Alex has received awards for his work from the City of Seattle, Puget Sound Transit and the Jack Straw Foundation. Alex holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a MLA from St. Edward's University, and interned at Chicago's Experimental Sound Studio. He co-hosts KOOP Radio's Commercial Suicide, is an active member of the Austin New Music Co-op, and is a founding member of the Mimeograph Collective, a label dedicated to releasing new and adventurous works.

James Eck Rippie (born 1977) is a visual/sound artist originally from Nashville, TN and currently resides in Houston, TX. He works primarily as a turntablist with a focus on creating abstract sound from classical music records while utilizing altered needles, turntable feedback, effect pedals, damaged records, etc. While decomposing the original sound source, Rippie’s intentions are to understand the transcending possibilities of sound as well as test the capabilities of the turntable as an instrument.

Josh Russell's work lies in the gully between academic electro-acoustic and ambient drift. Inspired by the soft incidental noises that one normally filters out he distills these sounds down and composes with them. By manipulating previously recorded sounds live as well as amplifying miniature sound environments he tries to create recordings and give performances that keep the listener engaged and present in the moment. In 2000 he founded bremsstrahlung recordings and in 2005 founded trans>parent radiation it's net-audio/CDR sub-label.for more information and downloadable audio please visit http://www.bremsstrahlung-recordings.org/artists/russell.php

Rick Reed is an enigmatic figure from the Austin experimental underground. A man who so far, despite all reasons to the contrary, has totally refused to give up and go along quietly. He has been making noisy sounds around town for more than 20 years, both as a solo act and with various combinations of people and situations- The Fear and Tension Corp., Frequency Curtain, Abrasion Ensemble to name but a few. Expect bizarre, buzzing soundscapes with flickering lights- don't be scared, it's only the wind.

Ethereal Planes Indian is the moniker under which B.C. Smith plays solo. EPI became an entity in 2001 as a way to express and explore other musical ideas via 4-track home recordings. The fruits of this endeavor resulted in the release of a self-titled cdr in 2003. Since that time, EPI has played out sporadically in Texas as well as the west coast. The second release, Smoke Signals, made its appearance at the tail end of 2005.

Josh Ronsen - There are numerous obstacles you must overcome to arrive at what you want to see: Josh Ronsen, aka brekekekexkoaxkoax. Josh Ronsen, aka brekekekexkoaxkoax, is quite deserving of your attention, appearing on dozens of CDs and LPs and performing all across Texas in the last 12 years. Whether is it to experience the "handphones," a blindfolding, an assault by music so quiet is overwhelmed by a snore, petty bondage, being pushed around, seeing records smashed and CDs irradiated or to revel in tasteful free-improvisational electro-acoustic music, you know why you are here. But let's get one thing straight: Josh Ronsen, aka brekekekexkoaxkoax isn't really all that into you. Sorry. You can dress your finest, take up ballroom dancing, learn to smoke Turkish cigarettes, but it will be all for naught. Josh Ronsen, aka brekekekexkoaxkoax, has only one passion in life: eating all of the turkey bacon that he can shove into his sweet sweet mouth.

Tom Grzinich - Born in 1974 in Hyde Park, NY. "I play to play and mistakes turn into new routes which makes every time I play a new journey". "Its all about getting psyched on progression" Currently living in Austin.

Cory Allen - Compiling a lust for beauty and an obsession with detail, Cory Allen is an omni-instrumentalist/composer who applies his endless study of cognitive science with refined and abstract composition methods in order to delicately “tune in” the vibrations of his music to the perceiver's nervous system. In the past he has worked with such aesthetics as human biorhythms, moroccan gnawa trance rituals, and the vibrational speed of the chakras in hz. Cory Allen has released many records, scored multiple short films, composed music for a comic book, executed sound installations, digitally reinterpreted multiple artists' finished work for b-side release, and has headlined a night of experimental music at the Austin Museum of Art.

Brent Fariss has collaborated in several modern music ensembles including ThomFariCraw, the New Music Co-op, Gates, Araxia Trio, and the Imbroglio String Quartet. He has released several CDs on his own label, Spectral House, focusing on the publication of limited edition recordings and scores. In 2004-2005, Fariss was curator of the Performance Series for the Austin Museum of Digital Art, bringing to town artists such as Phill Niblock, Richard Chartier, Olivia Block, and more. 2006 brings two new releases on the Spectral House label (Folk Song for 27 oboesand a collaborative effort with Bill Thompson), as well as an electronic release on the Con-V label out of Spain. Fariss holds a Master's degree in Composition from Texas State University, where he also studied the contrabass. His goal in music is exploring the nature of sound (timbre), elevating it to the same level as melody, harmony, rhythm, and form.
