Notes:

en la búsqueda del sanchez (encontraron solamente fantasmas) is scored for both traditional and found percussive objects exploring an increasing interest in the textural component of percussion (rather than the rhythmic). The piece, influenced by an experience that occurred in the South Texas Gulf Coast, has a strong affinity to the ritualism present in Mexican culture. A spectral presence is felt and explored (first movement), only to be re-examined (second movement) with certain aspects amplified by the performers’ actions, and other parts cast aside.

On 11/09/07, Fariss' new quartet for percussion premiered at the SOUND Festival in Aberdeen by the group, Paella. The piece is around 15 minutes long as is written for traditional and found percussive objects. This is Part One of the Mexican Minimalist Series. We hope to do a US concert of the works in early 2008.
